Buy Japanese?

Like all extremists, the radical right frequently find that one of their dogmas conflict with another and they have to make a choice. In the case of the American Family Association they had to choose between nationalism, capitalism and homophobia. The AFA is threatening a boycott of the Ford Motor Company over their tolerance of gays and their desire to take cash from the gay community.

Ford has a fairly tolerant attitude towards it's gay employees and being as large an employer as they are, they really have no choice. In addition, Ford has donated to several gay causes since it is good PR. But the thing that really has the AFA's pantaloons in a twist is that Ford runs advertising in gay publications.

Some while back the radicals at the AFA boycotted Ford over their advertising in gay magazines so Ford pulled the ads thinking no one would really notice. Well, the gay community did and Ford reinstated the ads after doing a quick calculation of which group has more disposable income.

The AFA's current press release has this head scratcher: "All we wanted was for Ford to refrain from choosing sides in the cultural war, and supporting groups which promote same-sex marriage is not remaining neutral.". Ford takes no position on same-sex marriage anywhere I can find so that's just a lie. Moreover, the whole point of even having a press release is to force them to take a side. The radical right loves to equate their position with "neutral" like they do with their criticism of "liberal activists judges". Now that's indoctrination to be proud of!

So, if you are thinking of buying a car, buy a good ol' American Ford. They are kind of crappy cars, but it would really piss of the extremists.
